Shukura Chapman

Singer-songwriter / Musician

Her music, while clearly a nod into the direction of soul and funk, still feels fresh and contemporary.
— Glamglare
A relatively new face on the scene, Chapman is roots music and giving it a soulful and bluesy vibe.

Shukura is a UK born, New Zealand raised, Australia based singer-songwriter & multi-instrumentalist with a powerhouse voice. Influenced by Alabama Shakes, Anderson. Paak, Lianne La Havas & Matt Corby, Shukura’s sound is a refreshing blend of soul, roots & blues. In the studio she lays down drums, vocals & guitar for her records & her live shows involve soulful vocals over live-looped electric guitar, midi drums and keys layers. In 2016 she released her debut single One by One & EP Rearview, as well as playing Caxton Street Festival and opening Brisbane Festival as the first live music act. One by One was played on Triple J & featured in international blogs. 2017 has seen One by One announced as a finalist for the 2017 Queensland Music Awards, the release of Shukura's second single Release Me, which also received airplay on Triple J, a move to Melbourne playing venues such as the workers club and workshop bar and Shukura  announced in the line up for Outside Tribe Festival and Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival.

…the soul artist has a classic feel of a vocalist beyond her years and it’s gorgeous to listen to.
